What will I see on the tour

No matter which tour you join us for, you will learn the history of the area - knowledge which has been handed down in the oral tradition from one generation to the next. This history has culminated from more than 800 years of occupation in the Kaikōura region.

Kaikōura has long been known as one of the most picturesque locations in
New Zealand and the Kaikōura Peninsula – made of limestone - is a
photographer’s dream with its stunning rock formations exposed through periods
of rapid uplift.

In November 2016, when a magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit the region, the
landscape changed dramatically forming some of the newest land in the
world.  You’ll visit several sites and be
given the chance to stand on this land as you listen to tales of how it was,
what has happened and how it is today for the community.

Your guide will share the geology of the area and overlay this with
cultural knowledge handed down from one generation to the next, bringing to
life stories of the past with the science of today.

During this combination of easy walking and driving you will be served
light refreshments and meet family members as well as join in traditional
activities.
