From NZD $750.00

What will I see on the tour

No matter which tour you join us for, you will learn the history of the area - knowledge which has been handed down in the oral tradition from one generation to the next. This history has culminated from more than 800 years of occupation in the Kaikoura region.

Ever wonder how Kaikōura got its name or why it’s pronounced differently
throughout New Zealand.  What about the
haka, it’s fierceness and the reason for the protruding tongue?  These are just a few of the things your guide
will share during this glimpse into Māori culture and the stories of the area.

After boarding the
mini-coach head to ‘The Lookout’ to learn about the ancestor Rakihouia, his
journey and food stores.  Whilst moving
from site to site you’ll see beautiful carvings and as
you  listen you’ll see them come to life
through legends of old, teaching lessons for today.

You’ll see seals
and seabirds in their natural habitat and visit a Rāhui to learn about traditional
conservation practices as well as the efforts the Māori community are involved in, to preserve the bounties for future
generations.

At South Bay learn about Maui who pulled the North Island from the sea
whilst fishing and discover why Kaikōura is so important in this famous legend;
as well as see for yourself the new beach created by Rūamoko, God of
Earthquakes.

All to soon your
time will end; yet you will appreciate an everlasting connection to one of Māori
peoples most important places….
